Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our medication information platform.

General

Is this an official FDA or government website?

No. This is an independent informational platform that retrieves data from public U.S. government APIs. We are not affiliated with the FDA, NIH, or any government agency. All data is sourced from publicly available government APIs and is presented for reference purposes only.

What is an NDC code?

The National Drug Code (NDC) is a unique 10-digit identifier for human drugs in the United States. It consists of three segments:

  • Labeler code — identifies the manufacturer or distributor
  • Product code — identifies the drug product
  • Package code — identifies the package size and type

Use our NDC lookup tool to search by NDC code.

Can I request a correction to the data?

We display data from official government sources and do not modify it. If you believe there is an error in the data we display, please:

  1. Check the data on the official source (openFDA, DailyMed, etc.)
  2. If the official source has the correct information, submit a correction requestand we will investigate
  3. If the official source itself has an error, contact that source directly
Do you collect my personal information?

We are committed to privacy. We do not collect health profiles or require accounts for basic medication searches. Search queries may reveal sensitive interests, so we take care to:

  • Not create user health profiles
  • Not store identifiable medical search history unnecessarily
  • Use aggregated analytics where possible
  • Not infer medical conditions from search behavior

See our full privacy policy for details.

How do I cite medication information from this website?

When citing information from this platform, reference the original government data source:

  • Drug label information: openFDA Drug Label API / DailyMed
  • NDC information: openFDA NDC Directory
  • Recall information: FDA Recall Enterprise System via openFDA

Each page on our platform displays the specific data source and retrieval date. For academic or professional use, always verify data directly with the authoritative source.

Can I report a bug or suggest a feature?

Yes! Please visit our contact page to submit feedback, bug reports, or feature suggestions.

Data

Where does the medication information come from?

All data comes from official U.S. government public APIs:

  • openFDA Drug Label API — FDA-approved drug labels
  • openFDA NDC Directory — National Drug Code records
  • openFDA Enforcement API — Recall and enforcement data
  • DailyMed (National Library of Medicine) — Structured Product Labels
  • RxNorm (National Library of Medicine) — Drug name normalization

See our data sources page for detailed information.

How current is the medication information?

Data freshness varies by source:

  • openFDA Drug Label API: Updated weekly
  • openFDA NDC Directory: Updated daily
  • openFDA Enforcement: Updated as reports are filed

Each medication page displays the retrieval date and source update date when available. We recommend verifying critical information directly with the official source.

What does a recall classification mean?

The FDA classifies recalls into three categories based on health risk:

  • Class I: Reasonable probability that product use will cause serious adverse health consequences or death
  • Class II: May cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences; probability of serious harm is remote
  • Class III: Product is unlikely to cause adverse health consequences
